VANGUARDS 1/43 JAGUAR XJ SPORT ULTRAVIOLET

The XJ Sport uses the 3.5 litre version of Jaguar's super smooth V8. It may produce 'only' 262bhp in this smaller form, but the clever aluminium construction of the car means it weighs a mere 1615kgs. This enables the XJ Sport to turn in a respectable 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 150mph.

This diecast model Jaguar XJ Sport is Ultraviolet and features working wheels.

1:43 scale (approx. 10cm / 3.9in long) - made by Vanguards.Limited edition of 2510 pieces worldwide complete with numbered certificate. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 JAGUAR XJ6 AYRSHIRE POLICE

Although a Police Jaguar may seem extravagant, when the Ayrshire Police force enlisted OCS 359H in 1970 it was a practical solution to a problem. William Lyon’s cars had always been remarkable value for money and were among the fastest and best handling vehicles around, so as a high-speed Traffic Division cars they were perfect. The vehicle replaced an S Type, continuing Ayrshire’s tradition of using Jaguars. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 ROVER 2000

The Rover 2000 was introduced in 1963. It was one of the most innovative Rover models ever and a turning point in the design of the modern car. It had an all new overhead camshaft four cylinder engine, an all disc brake system and a deDion rear axel and was the first British car to be fitted exclusively with radial tyres. Its advanced engineering and styling earned it the accolade of ‘car of the year’, in the first year that this award was made. Later on, the 2000 range was extended with the V8 engined 3500 model which put Rover on the map as a high performance car.

BRISTISH RAIL SERVICE VANS OF THE 50’s AND 60’s

British Railways came into being in 1948 as an amalgamation of the four regional companies: Great Western (GWR), Southern (SR), London Midland & Scottish (LMS) and London & North Eastern (LNER). For about three years BR’s road transport fleet remained in the old companies’ liveries with ‘BRITISH RAILWAYS’ painted over the obliterated company names.

As new vehicles were purchased, these were painted in BR’s first standard livery colour of all-over maroon.

BR Southern Region Service Van

This Austin A40 van is in British Railways original all-maroon livery and carries the ‘double-sausages’ logo. This single-colour livery-colour livery was superseded during the 1950s by the so-called ‘blood and custard’ colour sheme of carmine and deep cream which itself was replaced by a ‘stone’ livery.

British Transport Hotels Van

The Morris Minor van in this set represents a light van in service with British Transport Hotels in the 1960s. It is in the all-over ‘stone’ livery that was used by British Rail from 1961, and carries the double-arrow logo—sometimes unkindly called ‘the arrows of indecision’. This logo persisted in use until early 1996.

LLEDO DAYS GONE - SCAMMELL - FISHER RENWICK

This model's practically as big as some Corgi Classics, and so so good value for money! The transformer load is quite convincing, and Fisher Renwick should be a popular collecting theme for Lledo. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 FORD ANGLIA 105E - ROYAL ULSTER POLICE

The Anglia 105E was the first car adopted by the police to the new Panda Car role created by the Unit Beat Policing system that a large number of forces were embracing in the early sixties. However the RUC did not employ this system and so never used the Panda Car scheme. The RUC did, however, use large numbers of Anglias in various transport roles and stayed with the traditional all black at a time when other forces were experimenting with more visible liveries. The car modelled is a one of those vehicles, and served with the RUC in the early 1960s. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 FORD CORTINA MKI GT ROGER CLARK 1965 SCOTTISH RALLY

A young Roger Clark was starting to make a name in the rally world, while driving a white Ford Cortina MkI GT he had prepared at his family's Ford dealership. After winning the Scottish Rally in 1964, the basically standard white bodyshell was starting to literally fall apart and by then the young talented Roger Clark was able to secure a full-strength 'works' bodyshell in Red. The car was built up using many parts from the old car and so was able to retain it's 2ANR registration that it carried on the white car and before that on his original Mini Cooper.

This car is modelled as it was when Roger Clark and his regular co-driver Jim Porter, won the 1965 Scottish Rally, then three weeks later he used the same car to win the Gulf London Rally. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 AUSTIN A40 FARINA - BIRMINGHAM POLICE

Birmingham Police used a large number of A40s during the late fifties and early sixties, mainly as local beat Panda Cars or unmarked transportation vehicles. Superseded in some roles by the 1100 range, with which it shared its engine, the A40 continued to be used in Mk2 form because of its capacious storage and the ease with which equipment, carried by some branches of the force, could be reached through the Countryman’s opening rear window.

Although styled in Italy the A40 was engineered and produced at Austin’s headquarters at Longbridge, on the outskirts of Birmingham, meaning the force was supporting their local manufacturer.

The model features chrome detail, detailed interior, photo-etched wipers and roof light. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 JAGUAR XJ6 - BRITISH RACING GREEN

When Jaguar launched the XJ6 in 1968 the world’s press were ecstatic. The race tested XK engine was smooth as well as powerful, and Bob Knight’s chassis genius had enabled William Lyons to produce a truly beautiful car that was also more refined than any rival. Jaguar had the world at their feet, if only British Leyland had let them build it properly.

The number produced shows how popular this model of the Jaguar saloon is expected to be and rightly so. This could be the last we use the Lledo name with Vanguards. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 FORD CAPRI Mk3 3.0S - 1978 BRITISH SALOON CAR CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER

From 1975, the 3-litre Capri dominated the BSCC and Gordon Spice racked up 26 victories, winning the class every year from 1975 to 1980. In 1978, driving the 220bhp 3.0S modelled, he took 6 wins out of 12 races. Ford gained fantastic publicity from the Capri's success, so when the Mh3 was announced in March 1978, free 'update kits' were issued to the series' leading protagonists, which gave their existing Mk2 Capri's the up-to-date look and performance. The car modelled started life as a Mk2. Features include detailed interior, working suspension and authentic livery. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 MORRIS MINI - 45th ANNIVERSARY

The Mini was first produced in 1959 and was was so successful production of the car lasted until 1999 and although the car was updated, the general look of the Mini changed very little during it's 40 years of production. In total over 5,300,000 were produced.

Celebrating the 45th anniversary of this venerable motor, Vanguards issues a maroon model with black roof inlay in its BMC/British Leyland Collection. Side and rear views appear convincing, if somewhat squat, but we are unconvinced about the front view. Shop here

VANGUARDS - MORRIS MARINA 1300 LIMEFLOWER

The Marina was hyped as BL’s rival to the Ford Cortina. There were two engine sizes available, along with a 4-door saloon and a 2-door fastback coupe. An estate version was later added to the range. The Marina was produced between 1971-1978 with a total production run in excess of 950,000 vehicles. Vanguards' Marina is really a good reproduction of this unloved saloon. The etched grille and detailed interior are superb rendered for the money.  Shop here

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 STATION WAGON – ROYAL MAIL, GLENSHEE

Thirty-five miles north-west of Dundee and fifteen miles south of Braemar, in the heart of the Cairngorms, lies Glenshee; well known as a ski resort in itself, its environs also offer attractions as diverse as mountain biking, golf, walking, climbing, clay pigeon shooting and of course the Cairngorms National Park. However it comes as no surprise that the postal service of this beautiful mountainous region uses a vehicle that can be depended on to deliver the post when no other could; a 1993 Land Rover Defender. The tampo printing is really 'first class' and there are some excellent details. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 VW CABRIOLET - PALE BLUE

After WW II there was a limited but steady demand for the soft-top VWs produced by coachbuilder Josef Hebmüller, but in 1949 a disastrous fire at the works brought production to an end with just 695 cabriolets having been built. Work was then placed with Osnabrück coachbuilders Wilhelm Karmann, who were the only office.al builders of the VW Cabriolet turning out some 330,000 units before production ceased in 1979.

VANGUARDS 'POLICE PANDA CARS OF THE 1960s' SET

Lledo’s ‘Police Panda Cars of the 1960s’ set is a two model affair, limited to 5,000. The Ford Anglia is of the Metropolitan Police and comes with Police roof box. It really does look the part and is an important and is an important addition to Police model collections as it was this car that first bore that blue and white livery in Lancasshire in 1965.
The Austin Mini is from the Hampshire Constabulary and was one of that force’s first ever Panda cars, based in Basingstoke. On the lid of the box you can clearly see the authentic registration numbers on both models. What a pity, therefore, that collectors then have to put up with a sheet of adhesive labels bearing different numbers when they open the box. This spoils an otherwise excellent set – it surely can’t cost that much more for Lledo to place the correct number on each model. Even if it did, I’m sure most collectors would agree that it was worth it. - - Shop here
