PICK OF THE CROP

Siku have become specialists in agricultural harvesters of late, releasing sugar beet, potato, grape and combine harvesters, but their new forage harvester must be the best harvester to date. Priced more like a toy than a collectable, this forage harvester puts many much more expensive models to shame. The 1/32 scale John Deere 7500 self propelled forage harvester, fitted with a detachable eight row maize header, is loaded with detail and includesa glazed cab, opening engine compartments which reveal a detailed engine and a steerable knob over the engine compartment for the carpet farmer to steer this impressive machine. SCHUCO 1/43 HANOMAG R40

This detailed scale model of the Hanomag R40 (for 40 hp) features an open cab and second fender mounted seat. A highly collectable model from Schuco includes it's own presentation case. The roots of Hanomag go back to 1835 when George Egestorff founded an engine works in Hanover, Germany. It wasn't until nearly 100 years later, in 1924, when Hanomag introduced tractors and other vehicles. Over the following years, Hanomag has been acquired by many other companies such as Massey Ferguson, IBH and most recently in 1989 Komatsu.

For those who collect agricultural models, this is a 'must'. After development work, production of this tractor started in 1942. This model is a very accurate rendition, as one has come to expect from Schuco, with a very aceptable level of detailing. Shop here

CORGI - DAVID BROWN TRACTOR

The David Brown Tractor was a totally newly tooled model, looking very neat with its angled cab. It had a separate black plastic roof and was fitted with the usual lifting arrangement at the rear. The Tipper Trailer was also new and had a silvered-plated hinged rear flap.

THE CLASS LEXION 480 COMBINE HARVESTER

The class Lexion 480 combine harvester in the 1/32 nd scale Siku Farmer Series is a totally revamped version of a model released several years ago. At first glance, it is noticeable the decals are different and in keeping with the latest release from Class. The operator cab has been fully glazed and includes a driver. More detail has been incorporated into the header, by the way of end guard covers, and the overall finish is much improved with many small extras, including rear view mirrors. Shop here

SCHUCO 1/43 MASSEY FERGUSON TE20 TRACTOR

This highly collectable model of the Ferguson TE vintage tractor from Schuco includes it's own presentation case. Harry Ferguson is considered pivotal in the mechanisation of farming in the early part of the 20th centaury. The first Ferguson tractor was built in partnership with David Brown in 1936, but soon after Ferguson left for America to continue production there. It wasn't until 1946 that a Ferguson was again built in England, the Ferguson TE - for Tractor England. Ferguson merged with Massey-Harris in 1953 to become Massey-Ferguson.

An ideal model for the agricultural collector. A cute rendition of this classic, with loads of detail, especially in the engine region, seat and driver's controls. Very nicely treated tyres too. Th front and rear lights are extremely realistic looking for their size. A good buy. Shop here or here

FORDSON POWER MAJOR DIECAST TRACTOR MODEL

This 1:16 model is a highly detailed and accurate replica of one of the most famous British tractors of all time. The bonnet opens as it does on the real thing, as does the tool box. All the leads and fuel lines have been incorporated and, of course, the steering and the hitch both function. The Power Major was eventually superseeded in 1962, having appeared in 1958, but this original version is still held in high regard.

BRITAINS - FORD 5000 TRACTOR

The Ford 5000 Tractor is a true classic of the Farmyard and a workhorse for the generation. It had a powerful 6-litre diesel engine that had the torque to do many jobs other Tractors would struggle to cope with. And for a basic machine it also looks good in it's all blue paint with a white roof. Britains have done a brilliant job here and even for the non farm collector this is still a must buy. --NEO "Daren"
