VAHGUARD: BRITISH MOTOR HERITAGE MORRIS MINOR 1000 60th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION MOD

The Morris Minor was launched at the 1948 London Motor Show, Britain's first since the cessation of hostilities, alongside another legend the Jaguar XK120. In its original form it used a 918cc side valve engine and its headlights were mounted low in the grille. Foreign market legislation forced the lights up into pods on the wings in 1951 and then, when Morris Motors merged with Austin in 1952 to create BMC, the Minor received the Austin-designed 803cc A-Series engine. This was updated to create the 'single screen' Minor 1000 in 1956. The Minor was Alec Issigonis' first complete car design and possessed extremely surefooted handling which was many years ahead of its competitors. Engine: 948cc 4IL OHV Power: 37bhp@4750rpm Torque: 50lb.ft@2500rpmMaximum speed: 73mph 0-60mph: 25.9secs Produced: 1,303,331 (all Minors). KYOSHO 1/18 MORRIS MINI TRAVELLER

Kyosho is offering the Morris in green. The shape has been perfectly captured, and the detailing is extremely good, with opening side and rear doors, and bonnet. Particularly pleasing is the internal detail, albeit the dashboard area is somewhat basic. The fit of the timber on the nearside could be better. A word of warning: if testing the opening features, do be careful. The door handles are very fragile. Shop here

VANGUARD 1/43 MORRIS MINOR 1000 - 60th ANNIVERSARY MODEL

Launched at the 1948 Motor Show, the Morris Minor was the first car to come from Alec Issigonis’ extremely fertile mind. Its stiff unit construction bodyshell, torsion-bar independent front suspension and accurate rack and pinion steering represented a huge advance over the Morris 8 Series E it replaced. The Minor’s lights were raised into pods on the wings in early 1951 and it received BMC’s more up to date A-Series engine in the autumn of 1952, but the basic car remained unaltered throughout its twenty-three year production life. The fact that over 1.6 million Minors were produced is testament to the greatness of Issigonis’ original design.

VANGUARDS - MORRIS MARINA 1300 LIMEFLOWER

The Marina was hyped as BL’s rival to the Ford Cortina. There were two engine sizes available, along with a 4-door saloon and a 2-door fastback coupe. An estate version was later added to the range. The Marina was produced between 1971-1978 with a total production run in excess of 950,000 vehicles. Vanguards' Marina is really a good reproduction of this unloved saloon. The etched grille and detailed interior are superb rendered for the money.  Shop here
