VANGUARDS 1/43 AUSTIN A40 FARINA - BIRMINGHAM POLICE
Birmingham Police used a large number of A40s during the late fifties and early sixties, mainly as local beat Panda Cars or unmarked transportation vehicles. Superseded in some roles by the 1100 range, with which it shared its engine, the A40 continued to be used in Mk2 form because of its capacious storage and the ease with which equipment, carried by some branches of the force, could be reached through the Countryman’s opening rear window.
Although styled in Italy the A40 was engineered and produced at Austin’s headquarters at Longbridge, on the outskirts of Birmingham, meaning the force was supporting their local manufacturer.
The model features chrome detail, detailed interior, photo-etched wipers and roof light. Shop here

OXFORD MODEL 1/43 AUSTIN CAMPER
This month we have a camper with the roof raised which is part of a series of models covering the leisure market. The J2 was such a versatile vehicle that many were worked around the clock meaning few survived. Fortunately the campers had on easier life and it’s not surprising that some of these are still to be found. Coachwork firms were quick to take up the J2 for specialist conversions as the versatility of the chassis and standard body panels meant that a huge variety of vehicles could be built. The reverse side of the model has a second slide variant with two windows, the rear door is the single slide version. Shop here

AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MkII (GOLDEN BEIGE)-50th ANNIVERSARY
The original Austin Healey entered production in 1953, after BMC’s Chairman, Leonard Lord, bought the design of the Austin based Healey 100 prototype Donald Healey’s company showed at the October 1952 Earls Court Motor Show. Eventually the Austin 2.6-litre big four used in the 100 was superseded in BMC’s range by the 6-cylinder 2.6-litre C-Series engine, so the car was substantially redesigned to take the new power unit; creating the Healey 100-Six of 1956. However, the iconic Healey 3000 was launched in 1959 when the 3-litre version of the C-Series was installed. The model then continued in production until 1968.

TOP HAT AUSTIN SET
This three car A35 set depicits the cars built and driven by Rae Davies in the Top Hat "Oldies But Goldies" pre 60's Touring Car series, followed by invitations to the Goodwood Revival Races.
The "Powerful Peanut" #4. was the first of a series of A35's built and driven by Rae Davies and being partnered by Steve Soper in 2001 and TV F1 pundit Tony Jardine in 2002 at the Goodwood Revival races. Based on a 1958 2-door model, Rae transformed this humble road into a giant-slaying race winner for the Top Hat 'Oldies but Goldies' pre-'60 Touring Car series. Built in the spirit of Graham Hill's period Speedwell version, the infamous 'Powerful Peanut' has spawned a series of Rae Davis built replicas.
"Red Rocket" #9. was to be the second generation Austin A35 from the Rae Davies stable. Using all the knowledge gained in building of Rae's infamous 'Powerful Peanut', the 'Red Rocket Special' certainly lived up to its title as the fastest A35 ever built! It was constructed expressly to contest the St Mary's Trophy race at the 2004 Goodwood Revival, where Rony Jardine again partnered Rae in this two-part race. The 'Red Rocket' beat the big Jaguar MK1 of grant Williams in a thrilling finale in front of a capacity crowd and this giant-slaying performance was deemed by Goodwood's Lord March to be the 'Drive of the Day'
"Mushey Pea" #3. was the third in a series of A35's built by Rae Davies Racing, and was probably the fastest and most developed of all the RDR-built A35's. "Mushey Pea" not only dominated it's class, but was able to win outright, beating large capacity Jaguars and Ford Zodiacs in the Process, making "Mushey Pea" a firm favourite with the crowds. AUSTIN-HEALEY SPRITE LE MANS
In 1967 and 1968, a ford GT40 won the gruelling Le Mans 24-Hour race. On both occasions the only British car to finish was the Austin-Healey Sprite. In 1968, the 1.3 litre Sprite, driven by Enever and Poole, covered 2,121 miles at an average speed of 94.7 mph. to finish 15th. This magnificent achievement owes much to design, preparation, brilliant driving and pit control. for Le Mans the car appeared with a special streamined body but the basic specification closely follows the standard version. The engine is a 1,275 c.c. four-cylinder unit with two carburettors, developing 64hp. giving a maximum speed of around 95 mph.
