CAR TRANSPORTER

Car transporter directly benefit the private; they reduce delivery costs and the risk of accidental damage en route and they ensure that the customer himself can “run-in” his new car from the start. Motor manufactures use them to deliver to their distributors and the docks; distributors use them to supply their area dealers. Nearly all transporters are articulated so that there is always a fresh load of four, six or eight car waiting for the first available tractor. Car delivery companies often operate Ford D tractors because their range of engines match the differing transporter sizes. The semi-trailers use both hydraulic and mechanical power to operate the loading ramp and fold the upper deck when the unit is returning empty to base. (~Corgi Juniors Collectors Album)

REFUSE TRUCK

K-7 Refuse Truck

Efficient refuse collection is vital to the health, as well as to the attraction of our cities. In recent years, many household items have been made available in easily disposable packs, cartons or aerosols, adding somewhat to the chores of the dustman and presenting a new problem to the vehicle designer. Today, household refuse loaded into the vehicle by mechanical means and then compressed in the lorry by a plate moving towards the bulkhead. Shelvoke and Drewry have been in the business for many years and their vehicles are employed by many municipalities. Of light alloy construction, the body tips the refuse at he final disposal site. VAUXHALL CRESTA MONTE CARLO RALLY

The Vauxhall Cresta was launched in October 1957 and like the FA had a distinct transatlantic look to its styling. Initially launched with a 2.2 litre engine it was enlarged to 2.6 litres in 1960 so driver John Watson and his crew, Frank Dimblebee and John Whitmore, entered the 1961 Monte Carlo rally with 95 BHP at their disposal, for the car was almost completely standard. They started the event from Warsaw in Poland and were classified as finishers in 140th position, quite an achievement when you consider that Mr Walker drove the last 450 miles on icy mountain roads with no brakes!

The hugely stylish Cresta is a perennial favourite for Vauxhall fans. This is the first of a new casting, and we are hugely impressed. Lledo have had a chance to let themselves go a little with the chrome on this model, and the results are gorgeous.

CORGI GOLD PLATED 50 YEARS LAND ROVER

Conceived as a short term model by the Rover Car Company, the Land Rover was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show on April 30th 1948. Designed as an improved four wheel drive machine to the Jeep it was thought to be ideal for farmers and the developing third world, possibly even used to pull ploughs.

An immediate success, orders poured in from all over the world and King George VI ordered the first of many to be used on royal estates. Everyone wanted a Land Rover and it became a common sight on farms, in forests and in the police and armed forces as well as gaining huge popularity in Africa and other parts of the developing world. Land Rover could go where no vehicles had gone before.

Over the years Land Rover has gone through many changes, refinements and improvements but 50 years later it still remains one of the most popular and recognizable four wheel drive vehicles in the world.
