CORGI 1/64 LONDON 2012 GREAT BRITISH CLASSICS ROUTEMASTER



The double Decker bus was the official mode of transport for over 6,000 athletes during the 1948 London Olympics. Special services began on the 8th July and ran to the 21st August 1948,345,000 miles were covered. The London Transport Executive was formed in 1948, the year of the last Olympic Games hosted in London, as part of the government’s massive post-war nationalisation programme.

LT entered public ownership as part of the British Transport Commission which also owned the newly formed British Railways. The red double decker bus remains an iconic symbol of London and will be seen by millions of visitors to London during the Olympic Games. Shop here

The revolutionary TX1 modeled here was designed, developed and built in 1997. It’s iconic redecessor, the Austin FX3 was produced between 1948 (the year of the last Olympics to be hosted in London) and 1959. The famous ‘black cab’ is universally recognised as a symbol of London. The name taxi derives from the taximeter, the instrument which measures the distance travelled or the time taken, thus allowing an accurate fare to be determined. The classic Morris Minor was launched in 1948, the year of the last Olympics to be hosted in London. It was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis who went on to design the iconically British Mini
.
The first Mini was produced in Longbridge, Great Britain on the 3rd April 1959 with the 5,387,862nd and final Mini rolling off the production line in October 2000. BMW will transport athletes around the London 2012 in 4,000 cars, including the BMW MINI as one of six BMW models to be showcased during the Olympic Games. The Foden S21 'Mickey Mouse' cab from Corgi looks rather splendid as part of cylindrical tanker. The first livery is of Arrow Bulk Carriers Ltd.' the grey and red livery setting off the shiny chrome of the tanker. Corgi has well captured the shape of the cab, the fact that on this version the windscreen is surrounded in black adding to the authenticity.
