VANGUARDS 1/43 ALLEGRO SS LAGOON BLUE

When the Allegro was launched in 1973 it was, in the spirit of the times rather brash, with its squared off steering wheel and brightly covered bri-nylon interiors. No product could have exuded the zeitgeist more than the 1750ss shown here in lagoon blue with ochre interior. Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/43 AUSTIN ALLEGRO SPECIAL LE TARA GREEN

Production of the Allegro’s 1300cc engine was reduced due to preparations for the forthcoming Metro during 1978 so BL created the Special LE to maintain production levels. Priced at only £2,965.95 to tempt buyers away from the 1300, it offered a 5-speed gearbox, Sundym tinted-glass, passenger-door-mirror, lockable fuel-cap, fog-lamps, tachometer and a leather steering wheel. Launched on Wednesday the 5th April 1978 and publicised as ‘The Allegro of a Lifetime’ just two metallic colours were offered; Tara Green and Astral Blue. Only 6,800 Special LEs were produced and very few survive. However, the car modelled has been lovingly cared for since 1995 by Surrey enthusiasts Mr and Mrs Don and Norma Bridle.Shop here

VANGUARD 1/43 FORD CORTINA GT MKII 1967 SAFARI RALLY BENGHT SONDERSTOM & GUNNAR PALM

Ford put a tremendous amount of effort into the 1967 Safari Rally, entering seven cars in total and spending a budget of £50,000 on the event. However the car developed alternator trouble during one of the stages and were unable to use all their lights, causing them to plunge headlong into a huge trench running across the track which finished their rally. The rally was won by the previous years winner Bert Shankland and Chris Rothwell in a Peugeot 404.Shop here

CORGI 1/43 HILLMAN IMP - RENFREWSHIRE & BUTE POLICE

As the Hillman Imp was built in Linwood, Scotland, it was obviously a first choice vehicle for panda car duties in the area. One of the forces that used the Imp was the Renfrew and Bute Constabulary who chose this very unusual colour scheme for their vehicles, which certainly stood out well. In May 1975 the force ceased to exist when it was merged with several others to form the Strathclyde Police. Shop here
