MINICHAMPS 1/18 FORD CAPRI

This Minichamps Ford Capri is good outside, and great inside. The model itself is pretty good, with superb radiator and side grilles, individual, coloured glazed lights, tiny badging and other nice touches.

But it's the interior that is truly remarkable. That stylish Capri steering wheel, the wood grain dash used on top Capris, brilliant continental armrest door pulls, chrome-effect door handles and ribbed panelling for the door sides, and on the seats, all combine transport you straight back to the days when a Capri was a desirable car. This is one of the new Minichamps range of classic British cars and is right-hand drive. Shop here

DIECAST MODEL LINCOLN CONTINENTAL JFK PRESIDENTIAL

The Minichamps model is a superbly detailed, highly accurate rendition of the parade Lincoln, dubbed X-100 by the Secret Service. The car itself was specifically built to show off the President and so had a number of unique elements, including two radio telephones, extra jump seats, interior floodlights and retractable steps for Secret Service agents. It even had a hydraulically operated platform which could raise the President so the crowd could see him better.

One quick look at this model is enough to excite the collector: The chrome side trim captures perfectly the lines of the vehicle and the six figures inside flick into your mind images caught for posterity on the legendary Zapruder film. Great care has been taken to recreate the clothes of the four VIP passengers, right down to the angle of Jackie’s hat, the buttons on the collar of the President’s shirt and the exact coif of his hair. Even the flags on the front have been cleverly crafted into wind-rippled cloth with an excellent ripple effect. The wheels are true to the originals, with their whitewall trim and the gold-star-on-white emblems in the centre of the concave hup caps, and the Lincoln badges on the bonnet and on the spare wheel cover at the rear convince you even further. MINICHAMPS 1/43 MERCEDES 350 SL CABRIOLET

The Mercedes 350 SL cabriolet hard top is a truly excellent model from Minichamps. A quick glance shows this to be very fine: a closer examination reveals just what high standards can be achieved these days in die-cast.

When you examine the model, note how thin is the casting, particularly important where the roof meets the windows. Note that the windows are flush, yet there appears no unsightly ridges of plastic. The wheels are superbly portrayed. The light clusters both front and rear are excellent. The interior looks perfect with all the dashboard detail, door handles, and so on, picked out in blue mettalic. The windscreen wipers, rear view mirror and wing mirrors are all seperate fittings.

If modern cars fall within your collection, and you want an example of perfection, then do buy this model.

JAMES BOND 007 'GOLDFINGER' ASTON MARTIN DB5

The James Bond Goldfinger film, starring Sean Conner and Honor Blackman , was released in 1964 and became an instant success. The film company Eron Productions commissioned Aston Martin for use of two DB5 Aston for the film, and also used both cars for the following film Thunderball. The Aston Martin is a well-known car, and this version in a 1/43 scale diecast model is certainly very pleasing. Look in particular at the fine wheels and an ejector seat which threw the figure of the Korean guard from a spring loaded roof hatch. The silver paint finish has been well applied. A fine model of a classic car. See more.

1994 VOLKSWAGEN CONCEPT CAR

The Volkswagen Concept Car of 1994 is certainly an unusual looking vehicle, the shape of which may not appeal to all. However, the Minichamps model perfectly captures the shape of this car, fully portraying the fairly basic interior and the very curved exterior lines.

Two versions have been produced, one a saloon, the other a cabriolet. Both reveal the usual Minichamps attention to detail, including the seperate door handles and windscreen wipers, and the authentic looking head and rear lights. See more.

MINICHAMPS 1/18 MORRIS MINOR 2 DOOR 1959

The revolutionary Morris Minor (the prototype was called Mosquito) was launched at the Earls Court Motor Show on 20 September, 1948.It was the work of a team led by Alec Issigonis, who later designed the Mini. Sir Alec was really proud of his participation in designing the Morris Minor. He considered it as being a vehicle which managed to combine many of the luxuries and conveniences of a good motor car with a price suitable for the working classes. The Morris Minor, when compared with competitor products in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, excelled as a roomy vehicle with superior cornering / handling characteristics. See more

MINICHAMPS 1/18 MORRIS MINOR POLICE CAR

Alec Issigonis’ Morris Minor, with its modern design outlook, incorporation rack-and-pinion steering and independent torsion-bar suspension, became highly popular with police forces across the country. By 1962 with the 1098cc engine, a top speed of 70mph made it popular with traffic divisions of the London Met’, yet independent suspension made it ideal for rural policing. Minichamps have produced the 1959 Morris Minor in accurate police livery. By 1959, over a million Minors were on the road, driven by both civilians and police officers. The model features appropriate police equipment with opening doors, bonnet and boot. See more.

MINICHAMPS 1/18 FORD CAPRI 1700GT

When launched in 1969 the Ford Capri created a storm. It was a glamorous machine with fair performance, reasonable room – even in the back, and bags of style.
The waiting list was huge, such was the demand for the European pony car. And the Minichamps’ version has created similar waves in the model world.
The overall shape is superb, catching the still appealing lines of the car expertly: it’s quite a tricky shape to capture, with its long nose and short tail, and Minichamps has done the job very well.
Under the bonnet you can see maker’s plaques and tyre pressure details. There are leads running from the Bosch battery, and items such as the carbs and screen washer bottles are independently detailed.
Separate door handles, wipers, lights, ect, are to be expected, but the interior boasts novelties like swivel ball air vents which are picked out separately. There are chrome push down door locks, every gauge is individually and correctly detailed and tiny touches such as the meticulously reproduced handbrake grip are hard to believe. If you were to shrink to 1/18 scale, you could slide into the driver’s seat and expect to drive away! – Reviewed by Model Collector See more.
