VANGUARDS 1/43 SUBARU IMPREZA 2000cc TURBO WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP - COLIN McRAE

McRae’s 1995 season started badly, with no hint that he would end it as World Rally Champion and the youngest ever winner of the title. However, by dint of a superb winning drive in New Zealand, and a controversial second place in Catalunya, McRae and Ringer started the last event of the year, their home rally, equal on points with Subaru team-mates Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya. The result was never really in doubt, despite suffering a puncture in Pundershaw and losing two minutes, McRae simply pulverised the opposition to win the rally and become Britain’s first World Rally Champion. In Catalunya McRae and Ringer were classified second behind team mates Sainz and Moya after Dave Richards, Subaru’s team manager, imposed team orders. Colin initially did not agree with this and posted a series of fast stage times. However he finally assented and clocked into the penultimate time control late, giving Sainz and Moya the victory. VANGUARDS - AUSTIN COOPER LAUNCH BROCHURE CAR-50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MINI COOPER

The Mini-Cooper was the brainchild of John Cooper, then proprietor of the successful Cooper Formula 1 team.  He saw the racing potential in his friend Issigonis's nimble economy car, the Mini, and after building a prototype, persuaded BMC to build the 1000 cars needed for homologation.
BMC agreed to pay Cooper £2 per car for the use of his prestigious name, and the Austin Seven Cooper (and Morris Mini Cooper) were launched on 20th September 1961.  The Austin version officially became the Mini-Cooper in January 1962.  BMC worried it wouldn't sell but high profile motor sport success soon meant it became the classless car everyone wanted. VANGUARDS 1/43 FORD ANGLIA 105E - 1959 RAC RALLY, LADIES TROPHY WINNER, ANNE HALL AND PATSY BURT

The 1959 RAC rally was the first year of Jack Kemsley’s time in charge. He increased the emphasis on special stages and moved the date to November, which resulted in a tougher event badly affected by blizzard conditions in Scotland. Although famously won by Burgess/Croft-Pearson Ford Zephyr Mk2, the event also marked the international rally debut of Ford’s Anglia 105E. Of the four Anglia’s entered, the highest placed, was the car modelled here, in which Ann Hall and Patsy Burt won the Ladies Prize and finished 20th overall, a remarkable performance for a car of only 997cc.  Shop here

VANGUARDS 1/50 LAND ROVER SERIES 1 -AA

The Land Rover was launched in 1948 in order to get a product to the market in the immediate aftermath of World War Two. Rover envisaged it would be sold to farmers, and initially underestimated demand for the vehicle. However, the AA Series 1 modelled here is typical in that once the Land Rover was on the market, organisations all over the world realized it was the answer to their problem, and put it to a bewildering amount of uses. With hindsight, its obvious that its towing capacity, storage, and go anywhere ability make the Land Rover an ideal vehicle for an organisation like the AA. See more

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF MOTORING WITH SHELL

In the 1930s the fledgling UK oil industry's numerous and conspicuous outdoor petrol advertisrments attracted critical attention from local authorities.

Shell introduced an imaginative and much praised alternative by displaying 30 by 40 inch posters on the side of its delivery trucks.

These posters continued the trend established by Shell in the 1920s for advertising with distinctive graphics, humour and highly original eye-catching work, using well-known artistics such as Rex Whistler and H.M. Bateman, toconvey the company's personality to customers.

A further poster series was commissioned by Shell from the most respected names in 20th century art, including Graham Sutherland, Edward McKnight Kauffer, Paul Nash, Edward Nicholson, John Piper and Vanessa Bell. Together their work offers a graphic chronicle of the dawn of mass motoring and the development of advertising.

By 1997 the motor industry and 'The Shell Transport and Trading Company' will have celebrated 100 years. The recurring theme from the posters of the 1930s-enjoyable and trouble free motoring with Shell-continue to be the cornerstone of the relationship Shell has with motorists today.

VANGUARD 1/43 MORRIS MINOR 1000 - 60th ANNIVERSARY MODEL

Launched at the 1948 Motor Show, the Morris Minor was the first car to come from Alec Issigonis’ extremely fertile mind. Its stiff unit construction bodyshell, torsion-bar independent front suspension and accurate rack and pinion steering represented a huge advance over the Morris 8 Series E it replaced. The Minor’s lights were raised into pods on the wings in early 1951 and it received BMC’s more up to date A-Series engine in the autumn of 1952, but the basic car remained unaltered throughout its twenty-three year production life. The fact that over 1.6 million Minors were produced is testament to the greatness of Issigonis’ original design.
