VANGUARD : BMW AUSTIN SEVEN DELUXE THE 4th OLDEST SURVIVING MINI MODEL

Austin Se7en De Luxe, Farina Grey, A-A2S7/108: The Fourth Oldest Surviving Mini. Gladys Hobro bought XLL 27 new in 1959 and kept it until June 1986 but only used it when she and her family returned home to Bognor Regis from Khartoum, Sudan, where they were based. Second owner, Chichester-based David Gallimore, never started his intended restoration and offered the 30,041 mile car for sale in 2011. It was purchased, in the original but very rusty state modelled here, by three Mini enthusiasts from Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, Richard Bremner, Bryan Smart and Robert Lancaster-Gaye. In 2012, having proved the car's production history, significance and originality, they consigned it, unrestored, to Bonham's auctioneers. They'd initially feared losing their Pounds 10,000 investment so were amazed when it sold for Pounds 40,250. Researched with the help of the BMIHT Gaydon. The MINI logo and the MINI wordmark are trademarks of BMW AG and are used under license. Please note, box and model dimensions are shown as identical however only represent the box/package size. VANGUARDS - AUSTIN COOPER LAUNCH BROCHURE CAR-50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MINI COOPER

The Mini-Cooper was the brainchild of John Cooper, then proprietor of the successful Cooper Formula 1 team.  He saw the racing potential in his friend Issigonis's nimble economy car, the Mini, and after building a prototype, persuaded BMC to build the 1000 cars needed for homologation.
BMC agreed to pay Cooper £2 per car for the use of his prestigious name, and the Austin Seven Cooper (and Morris Mini Cooper) were launched on 20th September 1961.  The Austin version officially became the Mini-Cooper in January 1962.  BMC worried it wouldn't sell but high profile motor sport success soon meant it became the classless car everyone wanted. Ever since the Mini was introduced nearly 42 years ago, it's been the hub of motor sport in the UK, with many dedicated racing series instigated. The Mini Seven Formula is one of the more gentle Mini racing series, although these 100bhp cars can still sprint to 60mph in seven seconds and push speeds up to 120mph. This limited edition Corgi model (5500 pieces) pays tribute to 29 year old Christopher Huck, who in 1997 followed his father's footsteps into Mini racing. Shop here

KYOSHO 1/18 MORRIS MINI MINOR 1959

Kyosho is a Japanese model-maker, but the company loves classic British cars of the sixties. And so it was no surprise when they announced that they would be modelling the first ever production Mini Minor, registration 621 AOK. It has now been released. Over the years, there has been some debate about whether 621 AOK really was the first Mini off the production line as it does not have the lowest build number. But recently the mystery was solved. Peter Tothill, who was responsible for the design of the production line has confirmed that he and four other colleagues built 621 AOK over the Easter bank holiday of March 27 - March 30, 1959. The technical build date of May 8 was merely the day the paperwork caught up! It can be definitely confirmed, therefore, that 621 AOK really is the first ever Mini. And, of course, you can be just as confident that Kyosho has crawled over every inch of it to create a totally authentic replica. We, and you, would expect no less! And finally, for those who seek exclusivity, we have had 100 examples signed by the man who made 621 AOK, Peter Tothill. Very unique. Very special. This fantastic model has been accurately produced as a faithful replica of the original vehicle. Kyosho produce high quality diecast models with a great level of detail and high quality finish. Kyosho 1:18 models tend to feature opening body parts. This Kyosho model will make a great gift or great addition to your collection. Shop here

BRISTISH RAIL SERVICE VANS OF THE 50’s AND 60’s

British Railways came into being in 1948 as an amalgamation of the four regional companies: Great Western (GWR), Southern (SR), London Midland & Scottish (LMS) and London & North Eastern (LNER). For about three years BR’s road transport fleet remained in the old companies’ liveries with ‘BRITISH RAILWAYS’ painted over the obliterated company names.

As new vehicles were purchased, these were painted in BR’s first standard livery colour of all-over maroon.

BR Southern Region Service Van

This Austin A40 van is in British Railways original all-maroon livery and carries the ‘double-sausages’ logo. This single-colour livery-colour livery was superseded during the 1950s by the so-called ‘blood and custard’ colour sheme of carmine and deep cream which itself was replaced by a ‘stone’ livery.

British Transport Hotels Van

The Morris Minor van in this set represents a light van in service with British Transport Hotels in the 1960s. It is in the all-over ‘stone’ livery that was used by British Rail from 1961, and carries the double-arrow logo—sometimes unkindly called ‘the arrows of indecision’. This logo persisted in use until early 1996.

VANGUARDS 1/43 MORRIS MINI - 45th ANNIVERSARY

The Mini was first produced in 1959 and was was so successful production of the car lasted until 1999 and although the car was updated, the general look of the Mini changed very little during it's 40 years of production. In total over 5,300,000 were produced.

Celebrating the 45th anniversary of this venerable motor, Vanguards issues a maroon model with black roof inlay in its BMC/British Leyland Collection. Side and rear views appear convincing, if somewhat squat, but we are unconvinced about the front view. Shop here

DIE-CAST MODEL 1/18 MINI COOPER 1275S

The Mini must be fast becomming one of the most modelled cars around. Nevertheless, it is always good to find another fine-looking version for the cabinet, and certainly Kyosho has come up with the goods Kyosho is noted for its accurate, well produced models, and this is no exception.

The car portrayed is the Morris Mini Cooper 1275S, our sample having a red body with white roof. This really is a delightful model in all radiator and front and rear bumpers, to the silver trim around the windows and lower body. Such features as the windscreen wipers, handles and fuel tank cap are all separate chrome fittings.

The front and rear lights are plastic moulded. The tyres and wheels are accurate. Open the bonnet and there is a detailed engine. Open the side doors and a superb interior is revealed, with all the dials and trim, including carpet on the floor. The only feature that does not operate is that the seats do not tip. A lovely model which all Mini collectors should own.
